Masked men rob Payday America loan shop

Nov 18, 2009 (Post-Bulletin - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two armed, masked men burst into a southeast Rochester business moments before closing Tuesday and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

Rochester police Capt. Brian Winters said three employees were on duty at Payday America, 808 S. Broadway, when the suspects came in at 6:30 p.m.

The employees, two women and one man, were behind the counter. They told police that the assailants jumped over the counter, guns in hand, and demanded money. Some of the cash drawers were open at the time as the employees were preparing to close the store.

The employees were then ushered into a bathroom by the assailants. Once in the bathroom, the employees locked the door behind them to keep the armed men away. One of the employees had a cell phone and called 911.

The first suspect was described as a black man in his mid- to late 20s. He had an athletic build and was about six feet tall. He had longer, braided hair and was wearing royal blue gloves with N.Y. Giants logos on them.

The second suspect was described as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s. He had a muscular build and was about six feet tall. He was wearing a light-colored, hooded coat with a zip-up front, with various designs on the front and back. He was carrying a dark blue, medium-size gym bag.

The two fled the scene in a vehicle described as a light-colored, possibly two-tone, crossover-type SUV similar in appearance to a 2000 model Buick Rendezvous.

No shots were fired and the employees were not hurt. The female employees are 19 and 23 years old; the male is 31. Winters declined to say how much money the suspects took.

It is unknown if the suspects had a vehicle outside or fled on foot, Winters said. Anyone with any information is asked to call Rochester police at 328-6800.

Payday America, which has locations throughout the upper Midwest, offers cash advances and payday loans, meaning small, short-term loans to be paid back when the customer gets a paycheck.

  • Understanding the Voice of the Customer: Today's contact centers involve a sea of information that must be captured, processed, and distributed on a daily basis. Effective use of this information enables companies to remain competitive in an increasingly aggressive and customer centric marketplace. An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
