Across Systems GmbH: 1&1 and GMX Choose Across Language Server to Increase Productivity of Translation and Localization Projects

KARLSBAD, Germany, Nov 06, 2009 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- 1&1 Internet AG, one of the world's leading Internet providers with more than nine million customers, has chosen the Across Language Server for translating and publishing its hosting and e-commerce solutions into various languages. By using the centralized translation management software platform from Across Systems, 1&1 has already shortened the turn-around time of extensive projects, with 80,000 or more words, by up to 75 percent.

1&1's subsidiary, GMX, has also recently started to implement the Across Language Server. To facilitate efficient localization of Website content and text, the Across Language Server is connected to its Web Content Management System, as well as to additional editing and Content Management Systems that are used for document creation.

"We chose Across because they provide optimum support for the localization of software products," explains Sebastian Zientek, Director of Technical Documentation, Web hosting product development at 1&1. "Across offers ideal solutions for the localization of software user interfaces, the buttons and menu items, as well as online help tools and technical documentation." Due to 1&1's large global market presence, daily business operations require multiple documents to be promptly and efficiently translated into various languages. For the Web hosting and e-shop solutions, this means that the software user interfaces, online assistance, FAQs, product documentation, and user manuals, as well as the control center, need to be localized and translated into the language of the respective target market. The Across Language Server serves these translation needs for 1&1.

The Across Language Server includes a translation memory and a terminology system for centralized management and maintenance of language data, as well as powerful workflow components for controlling and processing internal and external translation jobs. In this way, all parties involved in the localization process can be seamlessly integrated. "External colleagues and language service providers are just as immediately involved in the translation processes as our internal translators who sit in the office next door," explains Sebastian Zientek.

Data handling is also of central importance for 1&1. "Due to the direct connection of our Content Management System to the Across Language Server, we can fully utilize the single source publishing for our multilingual content. We can now use one and the same multilingual content for different target media, for online as well as print publications," explains Sebastian Zientek. "The potential savings are tremendous and they are leading to extraordinary efficiency gains within my team."
