Four Dead, 12 Injured As Militants Invade Akwa-Ibom

Nov 24, 2008 (Vanguard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --
Militants from neighbouring Andoni in Port Harcourt, Rivers State last week attacked and invaded some major towns in Akwa Ibom State and killed four mobile Police men in Opobo town in Ikot Abasi, who attempted to chase them out.

The militants numbering more than fifteen and who came through the Ikot Abasi River struck and took the town by surprise, shooting sporadically while their alleged plans to rescue their Andoni kinsmen of Eastern Obolo kept in prison custody for wrecking havoc on Ikot Akpan udo village during the boundary dispute was foisted.

Until when the dare devils carried out their insurgence, the persons who were involved in the pogrom had been remanded in the prison custody in Ikot Abasi, while the Commission of Enquiring is sitting in Eket to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the mayhem purportedly masterminded by some prominent Eastern Obolo politicians.

The invasion which was described as ill- timed by the same political moguls who have been left free, was aimed at giving the militants the opportunity to seize the boys as they were being conveyed to Eket where the commission is sitting and later free them, so that they would eventually not name their sponsors publicly as all entreaties to free these notorious young men they have been using to achieve their cheap political gains may have been budged by the judge.

The Judge who was put off balance by the sudden development quickly announced the postponement of the sitting and called for the number of armed police men at the Commission to be increased to be beef up the Security of the Commission and their members.

But in Oron, banks did not open for customers both on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st November 2008 as the heavy presence of the militants crippled all business activities forcing most traders to close their shops and remain at home.

Non indigent traders according to source even deserted their homes to Uyo, the State Capital where the Akpabio-led government has invested so much on security.

While the State Police Commissioner could not be reached because our Police source said he was on leave, the Police Public Relations Officer's phone number was switched off when Vanguard called to confirmed the situation.

The Village of Ikot Akpan Udo however confirmed the incident but hinted that the attack was allegededly sponsored by some indigene of Eastern Obolo.

  • Understanding the Voice of the Customer: Today's contact centers involve a sea of information that must be captured, processed, and distributed on a daily basis. Effective use of this information enables companies to remain competitive in an increasingly aggressive and customer centric marketplace. An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
