Tekelec to Feature Next-Gen Solutions at Futurecom 2008

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Tekelec, a provider of core multimedia session management, announced
that it will participate in the Futurecom show, held Oct. 27-30 in Sao
Paulo, Brazil, featuring Number Portability, ENUM, VoIP Peering and
Performance Management solutions.

A provider of number portability solutions for the majority of
Brazilian mobile subscribers, Tekelec will be speaking about evolving
number portability and ENUM, as well as driving in network
simplification and managing out costs. Tekelec will be located at
exhibit space A44.

"With the deployments in Brazil, Tekelec further positions itself as a
leading vendor in the NP marketplace," said Ronald Gruia, Principal
Telecom Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Tekelec offers a wide array of
number portability solutions (triggered and triggerless) to fixed and
mobile (GSM, CDMA and TDMA) operators enabling them to provide a
valuable service to their subscribers, namely the preservation of a
telephone number when changing physical locations, service providers or
types of service. The NP marketplace is expected to continue to provide
opportunities as the availability of this service is mandated during
2009-2010 in countries such as Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru,"
added Gruia.

The first phase of Brazil's number portability mandate went into effect
on August 29. To date, it is the second-largest country-wide
implementation of its kind in the world after the United States, and it
can benefit more than 170 million Brazilian mobile and fixed-line
subscribers. Tekelec's solutions work with the central Mobile Number
Portability database that is accessed and maintained by all mobile and
fixed-network operators in the country. Tekelec is a market leader in
number portability and has number portability business with more than
72 communications operators in 25 countries.

"Operators are attracted to Tekelec's solutions because we integrate
number portability into the session management of voice calls as well
as short message, multimedia message and prepaid services. Our solution
simplifies number portability deployments and enhances an operator's
capability to handle enhanced multimedia services, which are playing an
increasing role in the consumer's decision to change operators," said
Paulo Souza, Tekelec's vice president of sales in Brazil.

Speaking Session details:

Souza will discuss solutions with other telecom leaders on a technical
panel entitled "New Technologies Enabling More Efficiencies for
Operators" on Oct. 29, from 11:40 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. (Pavilion B)

Vince Lesch, Tekelec's product marketing vice president, will present
at the following two morning sessions covering number portability and
ENUM, as well as enhanced routing and flexible service delivery in
next-generation networks.

Oct. 28, 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Enhanced Routing and Flexible Service
Delivery in NGN Networks (Uruguay Room): Service providers face many
challenges when managing the dramatic growth in broadband services and
VoIP subscribers. This growth is accompanied by an increase in
multimedia SIP endpoints and SIP capable mobile and desk handsets,
software clients on the desktop and portable computers. This session
will present how providers can simplify the network with a SIP
Signaling Router (SSR). The SSR allows the provider to create a
telecom-grade SIP session management architecture with an easy software
upgrade to an all-IP/IMS environment.

Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Advanced IP Routing - Evolving Number
Portability & ENUM (Chile Room): Routing and terminating calls between
the IP and circuit-switched domains is essential to seamless call
delivery. ENUM, also known as E.164 number mapping, is a domain name
system-based protocol. It enables service providers to deliver
high-quality multimedia services (VoIP, SMS and MMS) to consumers at a
lower cost. This session will provide an overview of the three types of
ENUM and case studies of early ENUM systems. It will also address how
ENUM can help providers simplify their network operation, lower costs,
and enable end-to-end IP services, including VoIP, MMS and multimedia
services.

  • Understanding the Voice of the Customer: Today's contact centers involve a sea of information that must be captured, processed, and distributed on a daily basis. Effective use of this information enables companies to remain competitive in an increasingly aggressive and customer centric marketplace. An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
