NGN Forum™ Joins the IMS Forum (News - Alert)® to Drive New Converged Telecommunications Services

New Forum to Enable Additional Revenue Generating Infrastructure & Service Development for Consumer & Enterprise in an Increasingly Competitive Market

Denver, CO – October 14, 2008, The IMS Forum and the NGN Forum announced today that they have merged to form the IMS/NGN Forum™. The partnership is designed to create, test and deliver NGN services. By combining IMS, SIP, Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) and Service Delivery Platforms (SDP), the organization unites developers, service providers, integrators and solutions providers to further NGN and IMS deployment. The NGN Forum is the pioneer in developing profitable business models for converged services targeting consumer and enterprise markets.

“The combined IMS/NGN Forum is the first to recognize that with increased competition in voice, entertainment and enterprise markets there is an urgent need for fixed, mobile and cable MSO service providers to partner with application development companies, digital content providers, enterprise and smart phone manufacturers, and financial institutions,” said Michael Khalilian, Chairman and President of the IMS/NGN Forum. “This partnership enables our members to fully address the emergence of a single market comprised of information technology (IT), telecommunications, and media sectors that formerly operated in separate markets.”

The IMS/NGN Forum will continue the industry leadership in IMS Interoperability and IMS Plugfests™ with focus in areas of IP Billing, OSS, Security and Reliability, SIP, Diameter, UC, SDP and IP video over all types of broadband networks. The IMS/NGN Forum membership includes over 2000 executives and technical and marketing professionals across equipment vendors, solution providers, integrators, service providers, and governmental agencies. In addition, the IMS/NGN Forum also announced that it has created the industry’s first joint Venture Capital (VC) study group consisting of its members and over 20 venture capitalists, private equity groups and financial institutions.

“Investors are searching for compelling high growth technologies to fulfill consumer and enterprise demand,” said Peter Lazor, President of Cardinal Points, M&A and Financial Advisers. “The NGN Forum and IMS Forum are in a unique position to bring all of these diverse markets together. We are looking forward to working with Forum members to identify value propositions for financial investment.”

“In addition to new and innovative services, the NGN Forum will bring IP billing, OSS and payment networks squarely into the picture to ensure that these new services not only generate but also collect revenue,” said Anantha Ramu, Vice President of Engineering & Principal Architect at Acision (News - Alert). “Today NGN revenues are generated by multimedia subscribers interacting across different networks, developed and supported by many of the IMS/NGN Forum member companies.”

“The IMS Forum is widely acknowledged as one of the leaders in interoperability testing, having completed 5 IMS Plugfest™ interoperability events in the last 18 months with over 50 participating companies,” said Ronald Gruia, Principal Telecom Analyst at Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert). “Together the two organizations will both advance and promote the rapid deployment of NGN services incorporating multimedia communications and mobility.”

The IMS/NGN Forum will continue with its series of Plugfest Interoperability Tests, and will launch a number of technical and business working groups in the areas of converged services, enhanced interoperabilities, and business and operational support systems. The combined IMS/NGN Forum will also continue to provide marketing, education and advisory services.

About the IMS and NGN ForumsTM

  • Understanding the Voice of the Customer: Today's contact centers involve a sea of information that must be captured, processed, and distributed on a daily basis. Effective use of this information enables companies to remain competitive in an increasingly aggressive and customer centric marketplace. An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
