Sun Java Wireless Client Available on Latest HP iPAQ Smartphone

SANTA CLARA , Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) today announced that Java(TM) Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) is integrated in the new HP iPAQ 900 series Business Messenger smartphone. Based on the Sun Java(TM) Wireless Client software - Sun's Java ME implementation for wireless handsets - and enhanced with custom features designed specifically for HP, the new HP 3G smartphone delivers a flexible wireless e-mail experience(1), including convenient voice(2) control and hands-free operation.

Sun Engineering Services delivered the Java ME binary implementation customized and tuned to a specific feature set requested by HP. The Sun Java Wireless Client software integrates with the Windows Mobile 6.1 native user interface, enabling customers to view e-mail in the original HTML format, access contact information and much more through a familiar operating environment.

The new HP iPAQ 900 series Business Messenger features the new Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system and latest wireless technologies including tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth(R) and Wi-Fi. The HP iPAQ Business Messenger delivers mobile e-mail, voice and access to business-critical applications(1,3). The Sun Java Wireless Client seamlessly integrates with the Windows Mobile 6.1 native user interface, allowing faster time to market for mobile applications.
