Six Apart Gives Facebook Users Free Blogging Tool

(TechwebNews.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Blogging software company Six Apart on Wednesday plans to release a free, cross-service blogging application for Facebook users.

Blog It lets Facebook users create blog posts and post them through any one of 10 blogging services, including Blogger, Movable Type, TypePad, Twitter, Vox, and WordPress.

"Blog It is one of the few applications that takes content created inside Facebook and makes it available for use outside Facebook," said David Recordon, open platforms tech lead at Six Apart, in a statement. "Blog It users are able to update their personal blogs, business blogs, online journals, Facebook status, or Twitter or Pownce activity all from one central environment. This is a concrete step away from the silos and walled gardens of the past and toward the open Web of the future."

In a video that shows how to use the new software, Recordon says that Blog It makes it easier for bloggers to share what they're writing with people that they know. "Basically, we're trying to make blogging more social," he says, "like Facebook has done for other applications and Vox has done for blogging communities."

Six Apart may derive some revenue from ads placed through the Blog It interface, but a company spokesperson said the main goal for this software was simply to promote blogging and to give Facebook users a productivity tool.

To date, Facebook has been seen as more of productivity sink. "We're really excited about how it makes at least some of your time on Facebook useful," quips Recordon. "Now, along with throwing sheep and buying virtual drinks, you're able to have a simple, easy-to-use way to post and update all your blog platforms and networks within Facebook."

An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
