RF Code Announces Real Time Tracking of Rack-Level Assets

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)-- RF Code, Inc., a leader in real-time asset management, today announced the availability of a far-reaching solution giving data center professionals the on-demand ability to know instantly, at any time, the exact location of every one of their computing assets. By automating IT asset tracking in the data center, IT managers now can have an "instant" inventory of all their data center assets. That's because the solution conducts a complete and accurate inventory every few seconds, as opposed to the weeks it usually takes to inventory assets.

Today's announcement reinforces RF Code's aggressive move into the IT asset management space. Recently, the company introduced a Bluetooth enabled mobile reader, the first mobile offering to provide distributed inventory and on-demand search applications for IT assets. Now, the company becomes the first to solve the rack level tracking challenge by automating the audit and inventory process.

"With the mobility of today's IT assets and frequency of those moves, software discovery tools and manual data collection methods simply cannot provide 100% accurate inventories," said Walter Darrough, of the International Association of IT Asset Managers, Inc. ("IAITAM"). "The automation of inventory and reconciliation processes and the ability to account for every critical asset in real time throughout the data center is a tremendous leap forward for any enterprise change control, audit or security strategy."

Inventory processes all require tagging or barcoding of an asset--a one time event. The real cost occurs after the asset has been tagged. Barcoding involves manually scanning in barcode information and passive RFID-captured information must be manually collected as well. Software solutions can't track servers that aren't plugged in or have moved. Moreover, regardless of the usual method of gathering location data, information is outdated the moment it's captured.

By applying its award-winning active RFID technology and software expertise to attack the problem, RF Code cost-effectively solves these issues, enabling IT organizations to slash their lost asset exposure, compliance liability risk, and security concerns.

"With our new solution, customers no longer take inventory, they have 'continuous' inventory," said Mitch Medford, CEO, RF Code. "Customers using our solution eliminate the use of expensive human resources to manually track inventory and significantly improve accuracy."

"As part of our RFID service offerings, Cognizant provides customers with end-to-end capabilities for technology-driven business transformations, helping customers select and implement the appropriate RFID technologies," said Hal Lavender, Chief Architect, Cognizant. "We were so impressed with RF Code's real time rack solution that we're not only using it internally to track our data center assets, we are offering asset tracking integration services around RF Code, speeding the time it takes for customers to deploy it in their data center sites."

Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) is a leading provider of information technology, consulting and business process outsourcing services. A member of the NASDAQ-100 Index and S&P 500 Index, Cognizant is a Forbes Global 2000 company and is ranked among the top information technology companies in BusinessWeek's Info Tech 100, Hot Growth and Top 50 Performers listings.
