Area Business Briefs: ECB makes Wood new assistant VP

(Sun Journal (New Bern, NC)(KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Sep. 24--Jeffrey C. Wood recently joined The East Carolina Bank as assistant vice president and business development officer for the New Bern market.

Formerly a banking center manager with RBC Centura, Wood brings 13 years of banking experience with him to ECB. His primary responsibilities will focus on all aspects of commercial lending and business development.

Hart receives award from dentistry group

H. Reid Hart, DDS, of New Bern, was recently presented with a Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry during a convocation ceremony Aug. 5 in Denver.

The Mastership Award is the highest honor available in the AGD. To accomplish the designation, Hart completed 1,100 hours of continuing dental education in 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours in hands-on skills and techniques.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hart is a member of the American Dental Association, N.C. Dental Society and Craven-Jones-Pamlico Dental Society. He is past president of the North Carolina AGD.

Strickland hired at Ward and Smith, P.A.

Ward and Smith, P.A. has announced that Jason T. Strickland has joined the firm's New Bern office. Strickland will work in the litigation section and will devote his practice to various areas of civil litigation.

A graduate of the UNC-Chapel Hill Law School and N.C. State, Strickland is a member of the N.C. Bar Association. He previously worked as a law clerk at the N.C. Supreme Court.

Also, Ward and Smith had 16 of its attorneys listed in the 2007 edition of "The Best Lawyers in America." The selection of attorneys is based on more than 1.8 million detailed evaluations of lawyers in 80 specialties throughout the country.

Pamlico Realty hires Williams as associate

United Country-Pamlico Realty & Land, LLC of Bayboro has expanded its sales team to include sales associate Mary Shine Williams.

A New Bern native, Williams is a graduate of East Carolina University. She has been a teacher for the past 15 years, teaching at Bridgeton Elementary.

United Country also was recently awarded a Founder's Award by its company headquarters for sales levels through the second quarter of 2006. The office earned the honor within only six months of affiliation with United Country Real Estate.

OEC Lighting to be featured on TV show

OEC Lighting, an architectural lighting design company with offices in New Bern, has been notified that its products will be featured on the upcoming television season of NBC's "Deal or No Deal." A brand of OEC's lighting will be part of the game show set in what is known as the "vault."

Michael R. Veerkamp, lighting director for the show, discovered OEC's product at a recent trade show in Las Vegas, according to a release.

Carr joins First South as new loan officer

First South Bank has announced the hiring of Robert T. Carr Jr. to its full-service branch at 1725 S. Glenburnie Road in New Bern.

Carr will hold the position of mortgage loan officer. He previously worked with First Citizens Bank and is a graduate of East Carolina.

A native of Fayetteville, Carr has 11 years of banking experience.

Tyson & Hooks picks top agent for month

Tyson & Hooks Realty, Inc., in New Bern, has announced its top agent for August.

Kathleen Fleming earned honors in listings, sales and closings.

Assist-2-Sell names top agents for August

Assist-2-Sell Buyers & Sellers Realty has announced its top agents for August.

Barry Evans earned honors in new listings, Brandy Hovanec in sales, and George Niewiadomski in closed sales.
