MINNEAPOLIS, August 15 /PRNewswire/ --

solutions

solution and offering it to businesses to send and receive faxes from desktop
PCs

Multi-Tech(R) Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of data communications
and telecommunications solutions, today announced that its FaxFinder(TM) Fax
Server Appliance is compliant with IP Office solutions for small and medium
businesses from Avaya (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of business
communications applications, systems and services.

By connecting to analog ports of a PBX, Multi-Tech Systems' FaxFinder
appliance converts faxes to TIFF files allowing users to receive faxes as
e-mails and to send faxes from any application that can print. The solution
provides distributed faxing capabilities over a wide-area network (WAN) from
a corporate office to small remote offices and field sales people. In
addition, it provides secure, convenient faxing for local-area (LAN) users --
offering a high degree of privacy for both the sender and recipient.

Multi-Tech Systems' FaxFinder is now compliance-tested by Avaya for
compatibility with IP Office 3.1, a flexible and easy-to-use converged voice
and data system designed for small and medium businesses.

"Adding a fax solution to Avaya's IP Office 3.1 extends the unified
messaging capabilities of the product, with voice, email and now fax
communications accessible through a single mailbox," states Chip Harleman,
vice president of sales and marketing for Multi-Tech Systems. "Since many
businesses still need hard copies of faxes for signing and filing, the
networked faxing enabled by Multi-Tech Systems and Avaya also adds a layer of
security since the documents are being received and originated at the desktop
rather than via a centralized public fax machine."

One of the companies benefiting from the interoperability of solutions
from Multi-Tech Systems and Avaya is Efficient Communications Solutions, Inc.
(ECS), a business specializing in the sale of Voice/Data communications
products and services to companies in the Pacific Northwest. ECS is both
using the integrated FaxFinder solution and is offering it to customers as an
authorized reseller for both Avaya and Multi-Tech Systems.

"Having a fax solution that is Avaya compliant gives us confidence that
it will work without problems," states Don Barber, a principal at ECS. "Plus
the FaxFinder's cost-effective pricing lets us effectively compete with the
other solutions available. In today's business environment, small- to medium-
sized businesses need each employee to be as productive as possible. By
adding fax to the desktop with the FaxFinder appliance, these businesses have
one more layer of productivity which can be essential to profitability."

Multi-Tech Systems is a premier member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection
Program -- an initiative to develop, market and sell innovative third-party
products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a
company's investment in its network.

As a member of the program, Multi-Tech Systems is eligible to submit
products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and
Test Lab in Lincroft, N.J. There a team of Avaya engineers develops a
comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya
Compliant. Doing so ensures businesses can confidently add best-in-breed
capabilities to their networks without having to replace their existing
infrastructure -- speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both
network complexity and implementation costs.

"By offering compliance testing to the many innovative companies like
Multi-Tech Systems who are members of our DeveloperConnection program, Avaya
promotes fully interoperable solutions that help businesses unleash powerful
new possibilities," said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations
and technical alliances, Avaya. "They are able to use Intelligent
Communications to connect employees and customers to information from
wherever they are, over whatever device they have available -- getting more
out of their multivendor network and delivering new value to their bottom
line."

  • Understanding the Voice of the Customer: Today's contact centers involve a sea of information that must be captured, processed, and distributed on a daily basis. Effective use of this information enables companies to remain competitive in an increasingly aggressive and customer centric marketplace. An overwhelming percentage of the information that circulates in a contact center's audio recordings, documents, web pages, and emails is unstructured in that it resides outside of a normal structured database and cannot be managed efficiently. These unstructured items contain valuable information, yet this information historically has been difficult to organize, categorize, and access.
